Malcolm has recently retired after 38 years with British Airways and is now specialising in Air Cargo consultancy and application development. He has a long established working relationships with IATA, BIFA, FIATA, AOCC, HMRC as well as many industry suppliers such as BT, Descartes, Traxon and Champ. He can provide advice on developments using industry standard message exchange in Cargo IMP, Cargo XML, EDIFACT and has specialist knowledge of connecting Freight Forwarder systems to the Airlines. He has comprehensive knowledge of all airline import and export procedures. He confortable working with staff at all levels within the organisation, can chair senior level meetings and is also happy carrying out business analysis and system testing.

Having held various Project Management roles at British Airways, which are detailed below, he has always maintained his knowledge of programming and now spends time writing applications for both the airfreight community at Heathrow and individual clients. His current portfolio ranges from simple excel macros through to complete applications and he is happy working with both small and large companies.

Personal Profile until Jul 2015

Malcolm was appointed eBusiness Programme Manager for IAG Cargo following the merger of British Airways and Iberia in 2011. His current is role is to deliver commercial eBusiness applications and the integration and upgrade of the British Airways and Iberia legacy cargo systems. Previously, Malcolm had held various roles in British Airways World Cargo during his 37-year career with the airline. He has extensive business experience in developing airline IT solutions covering operations, accounting, warehousing and commercial systems. During his career with British Airways and now IAG Cargo Ltd he continues to serve and contribute on many IATA committees, meeting with major airlines, freight forwarders, airport authorities and government officials. In his spare time Malcolm supports the UK’s Airline Operators’ Committee Cargo by managing their website and he also enjoys designing and programming small cargo web applications.

Work Experience

Programme Manager at IAG Cargo Ltd

Apr 2010 - 2015

Responsible for delivering an IT programme that included eAWB, Cargo claims, electronic Consignment Declarations, Cargo 2000 CDMP and a number of internal cargo applications. Represented his compnay any many IATA committees and working groups including the CAC and CSC.

Manager – EU Customs delivery

Janruary 2008 - March 2010

Accountable for the overall delivery and implementation of European Commissions Customs requirements for air cargo pre-arrival and departure notification. Responsible for the sourcing, integration and implementation of a solution for the Import Control System. Required to deliver an EDI message improvement programme to grow British Airways EDI penetration. Required to develop a business case and gain approval for the overall project spend of £1.5M.

 

Project Manager - World Class Customer Service

2006 - December 2008

Accountable for the overall programme management of the BA World Class Customer Service project from strategy to delivery.

  • Operational performance improvements of 3 points during 2007/8
  • Deliveredthe Cargo 2000 operational improvement programme
  • Implemented Canadian and India Customs solutions

 

Project Manager - US Customs Air AMS system

2002 - December 2005

Implementation of a global outsourced IT solution to provide US Customs with pre-arrival notification of air cargo arriving on BA flights. .

Acheivements
  • Managed, procurement and implementation of a large external IT system hosted in the USA.
  • Implemented a distributed IT application at all US gateways and 20 other locations worldwide
  • Successfully represented BAWC interests at various US Customs & Industry forums
  • Catalyst for the formation of the IATA /FIATA Customs Working Group.
  • Project team received the Outstanding Achievement Award for 2004.

 

Global Revenue Process Manager.

1999 - December 2002

Responsible for the implementaton of improved cargo revenue processes across the BA Cargo network.

Acheivements
  • Transferred cargo pricing management from New York to India.
  • Implemented a global centralised invoicing solution in India.

 

Cargo systems implementation and support manager .

1997 - December 1999

Managed a team of 40 cargo professionals designing, building and implementing systems solutions across the BA Cargo Network and provided 24 hour 365 days a year support..

Acheivements
  • Delivered a new cargo Pricing and Billing system in thr UK
  • Delivered a bespoke warehouse dock manangement system using Sabres QIK technology.
  • Provided expert advice to support the delivery of all phases of the new BA cargo facility at Heathrow

 

Manager Systems Application.

1994 - December 1997

Managed a team of 7 senior staff responsible for designing, testing, implementing and supporting network wide Cargo IT projects. Represented BAWC at International forums including United Nations (UN), International Air Transport Association (IATA/ATA), and the Universal Postal Union (UPU)..

Acheivements
  • Worked extensively at IATA to develop Cargo Imp messages standards.
  • Delivered many prototype solutions, which subsequently became production systems.

 

Cargo Systems Development Manager.

1986 - December 1994

Managed the global cargo Information Systems help desk. Responsibilities included co-ordinating development and implementation of Cargo systems solutions worldwide. Negotiating with senior management, technicians and system users both within and outside British Airways.

Acheivements
  • Gained substantial systems and business expertise.
  • Personally built a prototype EDI trading system that was the standard for Air Cargo Distribution systems for a number of years.
  • Co-ordinated the implementation of systems across the BA route network.
  • At International forums represented BA and developed EDI standards.

 

Development Officer.

1984 - December 1986

Cargo systems development officer responsible for implementing applications on personal computers.

Acheivements
  • Developed and implemented a Cargo revenue billing system that was installed throughout the world. This was subsequently used as the basis for future systems developments

 

Cargo Sales - Liaison Officer.

1979 - December 1984

Placed into a number of top customer premises as the British Airways representative providing a unique sales and customer service suport (AEI, MSAS, Jardine, Expeditors) Provided dedicated reservations facility, advised on special airfreight rates, and information on handing special cargo.

Acheivements
  • Implanted into A.E.I.to facilitate significant net revenue growth for BA World Cargo.

Provided a telephone sales and reservations service to UK Cargo Agents and other BA customers.
